It’s all about me…

I’ve been living and working in Asia for more than fifteen years. I was first introduced to the East in 1985 when I set out from my home in California with a pack on my back, a camera on my shoulder, and a few bucks in my pocket. My intended journey was to last a few months and take me to Japan, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan and Korea before heading home. When I got to Korea, the last leg of my journey, I felt no strong desire to return to California so I decided to stay put for a while. I lived in Seoul for four years where I spent much of my time documenting the many political and social changes which were occurring at that time. In 1990 I returned to California where I took a staff position with the Ventura County Star newspaper in Ventura, California. While I enjoyed this type of work, I knew that I wanted to be a freelance photographer and hoped to eventually return to Asia. Working on a daily paper taught me to think and work fast and also gave me a great deal of opportunity to improve my lighting skills. Then in 1995 I had the opportunity to return to Asia. Rather than Seoul, I chose Taiwan as my base. Living in Taiwan gave me many opportunities to photograph some of its most interesting and influential people, from presidents to corporate executives to television stars, all for some of the world’s most respected publications: Businessweek, Time Forbes, and Newsweek, to name a few.
